Savannah Etheridge Shines in First Place Finish for VVC Women's Wrestling Team

The Victor Valley College Women's Wrestling team had a solid showing at the Mt Sac tournament on March 29th, with Savannah Etheridge leading the charge by securing a first-place finish in the 207-pound weight class. Etheridge demonstrated her dominance on the mat with a series of impressive victories, including a swift fall over her opponent from Cuesta College in just 42 seconds, a win by forfeit against her Mt. San Antonio College opponent, and a hard-fought decision over her Cerritos opponent, with a score of 8-6. Her outstanding performance earned her 14.0 team points, contributing significantly to the team's overall success.

Other notable performances from the VVC Women's Wrestling team include:

  • Yanissa Sanchez (117 pounds): Despite facing tough competition, Sanchez secured a 5th place finish.

  • Paola Cruz Andrade (124 pounds): Andrade showcased her skills by finishing in 4th place and scoring 12.5 team points. She achieved victories over two Palomar College opponents.

  • Taeghan Golembiesky (131 pounds): Golembiesky faced a challenging bracket and received two byes but was defeated by an opponent from Mt Sac and Cuesta.

  • Makayla Anderson (138 pounds): Anderson earned a 6th place finish and scored 9.0 team points. She secured wins over an opponent from East LA and Mt Sac. 

  • Jasmine Latham (145 pounds): Latham faced tough opponents and was defeated by two Cerritos College opponents.

  • Briana Garcia (160 pounds): Garcia received two byes but was defeated by two Mt Sac opponents.

  • Mia Garcia (180 pounds): Garcia secured a 5th place finish and scored 8.0 team points. She achieved a victory over an opponent from Mt Sac. 

The VVC Women's Wrestling team continues to show resilience and determination in their inaugural season, with each wrestler contributing to the team's overall performance.
