Peter Ong Takes Over as Lady Rams Head Coach

Volleyball fans at Victor Valley College have a lot to look forward to as the new head coach, Peter Ong, takes over the reins of the Lady Rams volleyball team. Coach Ong is no stranger to VVC, having served as an assistant coach for over 10 years. Now, he is getting his first opportunity as a head coach and is excited to lead the team to new heights.

Peter's passion for volleyball started at a young age when he began playing at just 10 years old. Growing up in California, he spent countless hours playing sand volleyball at popular beaches like Manhattan, Redondo, and Hermosa. His love for the sport only grew as he played various forms of volleyball, including indoor, sand, grass, and even wallyball. In high school, he played for the Boys Indoor Volleyball team at Redondo Union High School, showcasing his skills and dedication to the game.

After high school, Peter joined the United States Army, where he served the country for two years. Following his military service, he found himself drawn back to volleyball and became a high school referee in Virginia. In 2009, he returned to California and continued playing in open gyms, tournaments, and leagues, further honing his skills and knowledge of the game.

In 2011, Peter was asked to assist the indoor volleyball team at Victor Valley College. He gladly accepted the role and has been an integral part of the coaching staff ever since. Over the years, he has mentored and developed players, contributing to the team's success. In 2014, the Lady Rams were Conference Champions and ranked 17th in the state, and Peter played a significant role in their achievements.

Aside from his coaching duties, Peter is also employed at VVC as an adjunct faculty in the Allied Health Department, where he serves as a respiratory therapist clinical instructor. His dedication to education and helping others extends beyond the volleyball court, making him a well-rounded and valuable member of the VVC community.

Off the court, Peter is a family man. He is married to his wife, Linh, and they have two beautiful daughters, Leilani and Penelope. He also coaches his older daughter's club team, Wildflower, showcasing his commitment to the sport and his desire to pass on his knowledge and love for volleyball to the next generation.

With Coach Peter Ong at the helm, the future looks bright for the Lady Rams volleyball team. His years of experience, passion for the game, and dedication to player development make him the ideal candidate to lead the team to success. Volleyball fans at Victor Valley College can expect an exciting and competitive season under Coach Ong's guidance.
