Men's Wrestling Looking to Defend Conference Title
The Victor Valley College Men's Wrestling team, led by coach Rocky Humphrey, is gearing up for another exciting season following their historic first-ever conference championship win last year. With a mix of key returners and talented new recruits, the Rams are poised for success once again.
Some key returners to watch out for this season include Blade Owens, Evan Roy, Joesph Robles, and Luciano Esoldo. Owens, a 125lbs wrestler from Apple Valley HS, is a 2022 3C2A All American. Roy, a 141lbs wrestler from Hesperia HS, was a 2023 3C2A State Finalist and All American. Robles, a 184lbs wrestler from Sultana HS, finished in the top 12 at the 2022 3C2A State Tournament. Esoldo, a 149/157lbs wrestler from Shadow Ridge HS in Nevada, also had a strong showing at the 3C2A in 2023.
The team has also added some key new recruits to their roster, including Miguel Saldana, the 285lbs Southern Section Masters Champion from Indio HS, and Haven Owens, the 133lbs Arkansas State Champion from Benton HS in Arkansas. Andrew Diaz, Chris Guerrero, and Matthias Valdez, all CIF State Qualifiers from Hesperia HS, will also be valuable additions to the team.
Coach Humphrey is most excited about showcasing the very best High Desert Wrestling prospects this season. The team's goals include repeating as Conference Champions and bringing home a 3C2A Trophy. They are looking forward to facing off against teams that defeated them last season and testing their skills against Division 1 and top Division 2 competition at the Menlo Open.
Overall, the Victor Valley College Men's Wrestling team is ready to build on their success from last season and make a statement in the wrestling world. With a talented roster and a dedicated coaching staff, the Rams are primed for another successful season on the mats.
Their first match is at the Bakersfield Duals September 14th at 9:00am.
