Six Rams Headed to State

San Marcos, CA

The Victor Valley College Wrestling had a great showing during the Southern California Regional Post Season event held at Palomar College on Saturday, December 2nd. The team's remarkable performance not only earned them recognition but also secured six of their wrestlers a spot in the upcoming State Championships on Friday, December 8th.

Evan Roy, Brandon Bollinger, Luciano Esoldo, Israel Manriquez, Anthony De Leon, and Angelo Franco proved their mettle on the wrestling mat, and hope to continue their success this weekend at Cuesta College. These six outstanding athletes have demonstrated their unwavering commitment to the sport, and their hard work has paid off in the form of a ticket to the prestigious State Championships.

Evan Roy, a force to be reckoned with as he is the So Cal Regional Champion. His lightning-fast moves and strategic maneuvers left his opponents stunned and earned him a well-deserved place in the State Championships.

Brandon Bollinger, competing in the 141-pound weight class, displayed exceptional strength and resilience. He finished number 2 in the So Cal Regional. 

Luciano Esoldo, a formidable opponent in the 149-pound weight class, was the 7th State qualifer in his weight clas. His ability to anticipate his opponents' moves and swiftly counter them earned him a well-deserved place in the State Championships.

Israel Manriquez, competing in the 157-pound weight class, was the 8th qualifier in his weight class. His remarkable speed and precision allowed him to outmaneuver his opponents and secure his place in the State Championships.

Anthony De Leon, a standout wrestler in the 165-pound weight class, was also the 8th qualifier in his weight class. His ability to execute flawless takedowns and escapes was instrumental in securing his spot in the highly anticipated State Championships.

Angelo Franco, competing in the 197-pound weight class, proved to be a formidable force on the wrestling mat. He was the 4th State qualifier in his weight class. His relentless drive and unwavering determination allowed him to overpower his opponents and secure his place in the State Championships.

The outstanding performance of the Victor Valley College Wrestling team at the Southern California Regional Post Season event is a testament to Coach Rocky Humphrey and his coaching staff, as well as these young men. Not only these six wrestlers, but all on the 2023 VVC Men's Wrestling team contributed to this accomplishment. As these six talented wrestlers prepare to compete in the State Championships on Friday, December 8th, there is no doubt that they will continue to make the High Desert community and Victor Valley College proud.
