Rams Secure First Win of the Season with Dominant 87-63 Victory Over Porterville

The Victor Valley College Rams gave their home crowd plenty to cheer about on Saturday afternoon, earning their first win of the season in convincing fashion with an 87-63 triumph over Porterville. After a challenging start to the year, this victory was a much-needed boost for the Rams, who showcased balanced scoring, strong defense, and efficient shooting.
From the opening tip, VVC set the tone. The Rams jumped out to a 21-17 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, extending their advantage with a dominant second period (22-12) to take a 43-29 lead into halftime. The offensive rhythm continued in the second half as VVC poured in 24 points in the third quarter and closed strong with 20 more in the fourth.
Offensive Firepower
The Rams' offense was firing on all cylinders, shooting an impressive 58.9% from the field and 60% from beyond the arc. VVC also converted 66.7% of their free throws, capitalizing on opportunities at the line.
Five Rams scored in double figures, highlighting the team's depth and unselfish play:
- Jaylen Contreras led the way with 14 points, hitting 5-of-9 from the floor and adding 5 assists.
- Raoul Churchill was perfect from the field (5-for-5) and from deep (2-for-2), finishing with 14 points and 4 assists.
- Josiah Williams provided a spark off the bench with 14 points, 4 rebounds, and a block.
- Derrick Hankins contributed 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists in a well-rounded performance.
- Quintin Aguilar added 11 points and a team-high 8 rebounds.

The Rams dominated the boards, pulling down 37 rebounds (11 offensive, 26 defensive) and limiting second-chance opportunities for Porterville. VVC also tallied 20 assists, 9 steals, and 2 blocks, showcasing their commitment to team defense and ball movement.
