Rams Edge Out Canyons in Gritty Home Victory

Victorville, CA – September 19, 2025

In a tightly contested matchup at home, the Victor Valley College Rams secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over College of the Canyons, improving their season record to 4-3-2. The lone goal came in the second half, breaking a scoreless deadlock and energizing the home crowd.

Midfielder Alonso Lopez delivered the decisive moment in the 55th minute, scoring unassisted to give the Rams the lead. Lopez's goal was the culmination of persistent offensive pressure, and it proved to be the difference-maker in a game dominated by defensive grit and strategic play.

The Rams managed 6 total shots, with 3 on goal, compared to Canyons' 11 shots and 9 on target. Despite the disparity, VVC's defense held firm, anchored by goalkeeper Emmanuel Lopez, who was outstanding between the posts. Lopez recorded 9 saves and kept a clean sheet across 89 minutes of play, showcasing elite reflexes and composure under pressure.

Defenders Dominic Castillo, Cesar Gonzalez, and Armando Rodriguez played full matches, contributing to a defensive unit that allowed no goals and zero corner kicks. The Rams also maintained discipline, committing only two fouls throughout the match, compared to ten by Canyons.

Offensively, Kayden Paz, Eric Franco, Daniel Miralda, Anthony Hernandez, and Victor Montes each contributed to the attack, with Franco and Paz registering shots on goal. Isaiah Molina and Alejandro Mendes Rocha added depth off the bench.

Victor Valley also dominated set pieces, earning six corner kicks to Canyons' zero, a testament to their aggressive play in the attacking third.

This win marks a strong improvement from last years start to season for the Rams, who will look to build on this momentum in their upcoming matches. With a balanced attack and a resilient defense, VVC is proving to be a formidable force on their home turf.

The Rams head out to Compton College Tuesday, September 23rd at 4:00pm to take on the Tartars.
